Iloilo city: This highly urbanized city is hosting the launch of the 'Handog ng Pangulo: Luntiang Bukas - Pamilyang May Lupa, Komunidad na Luntian, Bukas na Matatag' program on Friday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) emphasized that the program aims to demonstrate the connection between land security and environmental stewardship. The initiative underscores the belief that land ownership provides families with dignity and stability, while communities equipped with trees, parks, and weather-prepared homes secure a bright future.
In a press conference Thursday afternoon, Mayor Raisa Tre±as announced a ceremonial rice subsidy distribution funded by the Local Government Support Fund as part of the event. The city government will utilize PHP72 million from the national government to purchase low-cost rice from local sources. Mayor Tre±as expressed gratitude for the national government's support, noting the funds are based on population metrics.
The city expects an additional PHP72 million for infrastructure projects, focusing on drainage systems and road networks. These projects are prioritized to address the city's infrastructure needs effectively.
Friday's event also includes the ceremonial distribution of Certificates of Entitlement to beneficiaries of the Climate Resilient Housing Program in Barangay West Habog-Habog, Molo. The DENR plans to award 829 land patents or titles across five provinces in Western Visayas. Furthermore, there will be a showcase of climate-resilient housing and a linear park walk-through.
Notable attendees for the event include DENR Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna, Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, Pag-IBIG Fund Chief Executive Officer Marilene Acosta, and Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.
