Iloilo City Influenza Vaccination Campaign Reaches 47,000 Beneficiaries

ILOILO CITY: The local government of Iloilo City is urging more residents to participate in a free influenza vaccination program that has already benefited 47,000 individuals. The initiative, which is being carried out by the Iloilo City Health Office (CHO), aims to enhance community-wide protection against the flu. According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Jerry Treñas has called on all residents-whether they are working, studying, or conducting business in the city-to take advantage of the free flu vaccines. He emphasized the importance of mass vaccination drives and encouraged coordination between companies, schools, government offices, and the City Health Office to facilitate these efforts. Despite the significant number of beneficiaries, Treñas noted the need to reach more people to ensure the city's "collective protection." Dr. Annabelle Tang, head of the CHO, highlighted that the vaccine is particularly recommended for vulnerable groups, including senior citizens, pregnant women over five months, i ndividuals with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart failure, and healthcare and frontline workers. The vaccination is available at health centers in every district and at the CHO office located on the 2nd floor of the Iloilo City Hall. The CHO explained that the influenza vaccine is crucial in preventing flu symptoms, which can be severe, especially in older adults and those with compromised immune systems. The campaign, which began on November 24, will continue until the vaccine supplies are exhausted. Mayor Treñas reiterated that prevention is key to maintaining public health and safety, and vaccination is an essential component of this strategy.
