Iloilo Commuters Assured of Trips Despite Passenger Influx

Manila: Passengers from Iloilo City heading to their destinations have been advised not to delay their travel plans until the last minute. Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) Director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky highlighted this during an inspection at the Ceres terminal in Iloilo City. He noted a shortage of buses available to service the increasing number of passengers.

According to Philippines News Agency, Wanky explained that the purpose of the visit was to assess the current situation and identify areas for improvement. He emphasized the importance of verifying the effectiveness of security plans and exploring potential adjustments. Wanky also mentioned that while the management of Ceres assured there would be enough buses to accommodate all passengers, delays could not be entirely ruled out.

During his visit, Wanky inspected three major terminals: the Ceres terminal in the Jaro district, serving passengers traveling north to Iloilo, Aklan, and Capiz; the Mohon terminal in Arevalo district for those heading to southern Iloilo and Antique; and the People's terminal in Pavia for travelers going to central Iloilo.

In a separate interview, Ceres dispatcher Edgar Tomedo Sr. reassured passengers that there are contingencies in place, including additional trips for those waiting. Passengers are instructed to queue in designated areas for their trips, with priority lanes available for pregnant women, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens. Tomedo detailed the final departure times for various destinations, noting a reduction in service and manpower on Good Friday, with the last trip leaving the terminal at 7:30 p.m.

To ensure public safety, PRO6 has deployed 1,680 personnel to strategic and critical areas, including churches, ports, terminals, malls, and tourist spots, starting Maundy Thursday. Police assistance desks have also been established to support and protect the public.
