Iloilo PDRRMO on Heightened Alert as Monsoon Affects 3K Families

Iloilo: The Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) remains under a heightened state of operational readiness in anticipation of the impact of the enhanced southwest monsoon in the province. PDRRMO chief Cornelio Salinas, in an executive brief submitted to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., said that as of 9 p.m. Wednesday, floodwaters had largely subsided across the 47 affected barangays.

According to Philippines News Agency, eight municipalities-Alimodian, Leganes, Leon, Pototan, San Miguel, Barotac Nuevo, Zarraga, and New Lucena-reported rain-induced incidents, including flooding, landslides, and road slips. "The event has impacted 3,213 families (11,715 persons) and prompted class suspensions in 14 local government units," the report said.

Of the affected families, 53, or 210 individuals, are staying in evacuation centers, while 3,101, or 11,405 persons, opted to secure shelter with relatives. Further, three houses were damaged, with two being destroyed.

"Critical infrastructure and lifelines, including power, communications, seaports, and major road networks, remain functional, with emergency response assets on standby for immediate deployment if conditions deteriorate," the report said.
