Iloilo Pledges PHP5 Million Aid to Cebu Following Earthquake

Iloilo: The provincial government of Iloilo is set to provide PHP5 million as financial assistance to Cebu in the aftermath of a recent earthquake.

According to Philippines News Agency, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. announced during a press conference that the funds for this donation have been allocated from the province's existing donation resources. "I signed it yesterday. We will check if it has been issued," the governor confirmed, expressing the urgency of the matter. The intention is to dispatch the aid through Cebu's provincial government within the week.

In a related development, Iloilo's city government is also considering sending its own form of assistance to Cebu, though specifics regarding the amount have yet to be disclosed. The earthquake, which occurred on September 30, registered an intensity of 4 in Cebu and caused minor structural issues, including cracks at the provincial capitol building. Fortunately, assessments by the Provincial Engineer's Office and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office have deemed the building structurally sound.
