Iloilo: The provincial and city governments of Iloilo have expressed their readiness to provide assistance to areas in Mindanao affected by a recent earthquake. Provincial Administrator Raul Banias confirmed that Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. is committed to offering support.
According to Philippines News Agency, Banias mentioned that once Mindanao declares a state of calamity, Iloilo would be able to mobilize its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction (PDRR) funds to assist. This approach mirrors the support extended to Cebu, which Banias personally delivered to Governor Pamela Baricuatro. The province is currently assessing its capacity to send responders to aid in situations involving collapsed structures, although it is still in the process of procuring necessary equipment.
The municipality of Pavia possesses equipment suitable for addressing collapsed structures and may collaborate with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office if a team needs to be dispatched to Mindanao. Banias expressed concern over the events in Mindanao, specifically in General Santos and Sarangani, and hopes for minimal casualties.
Mayor Raisa Tre±as of Iloilo City has instructed the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to liaise with their counterparts in General Santos City. The goal is to evaluate the damage and ascertain the needs of affected communities. The city awaits an official assessment report to ensure that any assistance provided will address the most pressing needs.
