ILOILO: A female village chief and her husband were shot dead in Iloilo province Thursday morning. In a report, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) identified the fatalities as Michelle Lamela, chair of Barangay Sto. Niño in Dueñas town, and her husband Rodney. According to Philippines News Agency, two unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects gunned down the couple, who were also on a motorcycle, at about 9:40 a.m. in Barangay Tinucuan, approximately 3 kilometers from the Dueñas town proper. The victims were promptly transported to Passi City Hospital but were declared dead on arrival, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head and body. Authorities are actively investigating the incident and have initiated a manhunt to apprehend the suspects responsible for the brutal attack. The local community remains in shock as police work tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice.
