Manila: The Philippines' renowned dishes, chicken inasal, sinigang, and adobong manok, have been recognized on a global scale with their inclusion in TasteAtlas' latest April 2026 rankings. These culinary delights have long been celebrated in the country and are now gaining international acclaim.
According to Philippines News Agency, chicken inasal secured the 40th spot in the list of best dishes worldwide and emerged as the top chicken dish in Southeast Asia. Adobong manok also made a significant mark by ranking 7th in the same regional category. Meanwhile, pork sinigang was placed 52nd in the global listing, with TasteAtlas highlighting Max's Restaurant as a prime destination to experience this dish's 'most iconic' version.
Pork sinigang is cherished for its tangy and savory broth, which is created by simmering various pork cuts with tamarind fruit. Chicken inasal, originating from Western Visayas, is a signature grilled dish known for its smoky flavor, achieved by marinating the chicken in vinegar and a blend of spices including lemongrass, garlic, and ginger. The dish is then grilled while being brushed with annatto-infused oil, giving it a distinctive golden hue and peppery taste.
Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay expressed her delight at the recognition, emphasizing how these accolades elevate Filipino culinary traditions on the global platform. She remarked, "Filipino cuisine has always been a powerful expression of our identity and a meaningful driver of cultural tourism. Each dish carries the stories, traditions, and creativity of our people, offering both foreign and local visitors a deeper connection through shared flavors."
Angara-Mathay further noted that beyond the culinary prestige, such acknowledgments provide a significant boost to the Philippines by creating opportunities for various sectors, especially benefiting farmers, food producers, chefs, and small business owners.
