Manila: Typhoon Inday (international name Bavi) continues to weaken, packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph, the weather bureau said in its 11 a.m. bulletin on Friday. Inday was last located 570 km east of Itbayat, Batanes, moving northwestward at 20 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
According to Philippines News Agency, Wind Signal No. 2 remains hoisted in Batanes, the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Island, Didicas Island, Camiguin Island) and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana). Gale-force winds will prevail in these areas. The rest of Babuyan Islands, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, northern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lagayan, Danglas, San Juan, Lagangilang, Licuan-Baay, Malibcong, Lacub, Daguioman, Dolores, La Paz), Kalinga, eastern portion of Mountain Province (Natonin, Paracelis), eastern portion of Ifugao (Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista) and Ilocos Norte are still under Signal No. 1 and will experience strong winds.
Most of the country will continue experiencing strong to gale-force gusts caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat and Inday's periphery. Gale warning remains in effect over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon. Inday is forecast to remain as a typhoon and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday.
PAGASA, meanwhile, said Inday will continue to bring heavy rains across Batanes. Habagat will also continue to cause heavy to intense rains across Occidental Mindoro and Antique, and moderate to heavy rains in Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.
