Quezon city: A total of 59,149 tricycle drivers in the National Capital Region (NCR) have received cash relief assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program as of 12 noon Wednesday. This was reported by social workers stationed at various payout sites.

According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Rex Gatchalian visited several payout sites in Quezon City on Wednesday, where he informed reporters about the DSWD's plan to complete the payouts by Thursday. Gatchalian expressed optimism regarding the progress of the distribution, noting that the feedback from the tricycle drivers has been positive. He emphasized the department's goal to conclude the payouts promptly.

The DSWD anticipates an increase in the number of beneficiaries after the second day of payouts. To accommodate tricycle drivers who were unable to attend the designated payout sites, Gatchalian mentioned that special arrangements would be made. These include coordinating with local mayors to ensure that drivers in situations such as hospitalization still receive their cash assistance.

The department is also preparing to extend aid distribution to other public utility vehicle (PUV) groups, including transport network vehicle service (TNVS), motorcycle taxis, public utility jeepneys, and food delivery services. This phase is scheduled to commence on March 23, with payouts for TNVS and motorcycle taxis expected to start early next week, followed by distribution to Metro Manila's PUJs and food delivery services.

Gatchalian reassured drivers outside the National Capital Region that assistance would be provided to them as well. He highlighted President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure that no one is left behind, promising that support will reach drivers in need across the provinces. Announcements regarding aid distribution will be communicated through local governments.
