Innovation Summit Aims to Boost Economic Activity of Baguio MSMEs

Baguio: The city government expects to make micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) owners adept with technologies, 'doing business' and create networks that will boost their economic activity through the 2026 MSME Innovation Summit.

According to Philippines News Agency, Aileen Refuerzo, chief information officer, stated that the two-day event slated for May 29 to 30 at the University of the Cordilleras will focus on business-to-business matching and networking with 26 logistics and business organizations. The summit will feature breakout sessions, seminars, and government servicing by city offices and 16 national government agencies.

The summit is spearheaded by the city's MSME Development Council and its partner agencies to advance the interests of MSMEs operating in the different parts of the city. Discussions will cover potential innovations, circular economy, smart productivity, and intellectual property, aiming to help MSMEs access available support in improving their products and services.

Refuerzo mentioned that with the new knowledge, MSMEs are expected to enhance their potential and generate higher income amid pressing challenges. The Department of Trade and Industry - Cordillera noted that more than 97 percent of operating businesses in the city are classified as MSMEs, with the remaining businesses falling under the large-scale category, mostly located at the economic zone authority.

The 2026 MSME Innovation Summit is part of efforts by the local government and its partner national government agencies to empower small businesses to embrace available innovations, facilitating the expansion or improvement of their operations, productivity, and networks both inside and outside the city.
