Isko Moreno Orders Immediate Procurement of Anti-Leptospirosis Drugs in Manila

Manila: The Manila City government has initiated the procurement of additional doxycycline tablets to combat leptospirosis, as the city prepares for the southwest monsoon intensified by Typhoon Obet, also known internationally as Saudel.

According to Philippines News Agency, during a directional meeting held by the city government on Monday, Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso instructed the Manila Health Department to remain vigilant against the threat of leptospirosis. This directive comes in response to flooding caused by recent heavy monsoon rains. As of August 24, city data reveals 16 new cases of leptospirosis, raising the total number since January 1 to 229 cases.

Mayor Domagoso emphasized the importance of those who have been exposed to floodwaters seeking immediate consultation at local health centers or city government-run hospitals for necessary assessments and medication. He also mandated the health sector, alongside other city government agencies, to maintain preparedness and vigilance in safeguarding the health and safety of residents, particularly during the rainy season.

Furthermore, the mayor appealed to the residents of Manila to remain aware of their health, maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, and promptly visit the nearest health facility upon experiencing any symptoms of the disease.
