Manila: As July approaches its end, Ilan Fluss is preparing to conclude his role as the ambassador of Israel to the Philippines, a position he has held since 2021. Reflecting on his tenure, Fluss described his experiences as memorable and filled with significant interactions across various segments of Philippine society.
According to Philippines News Agency, Fluss expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received from the Filipino community. "People have received me very, very well. I felt very welcomed with very warm feelings here, especially being the ambassador of Israel, and Israel has a special space in the hearts of so many Filipinos," he remarked. Fluss highlighted the accomplishments achieved during his term and the lasting connections he formed.
Among his final contributions as ambassador is a basketball clinic, organized in partnership with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and the Laura Vicuna Foundation. The event, held at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig, featured 20 female participants who received basketball training from seasoned players of Gilas Pilipinas, including Afril Bernardino, the reigning Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Most Valuable Player.
Bernardino shared her thoughts on the event, emphasizing the importance of sharing her passion for basketball with the participants. "It's a big part of me to share my experience with them and teach them the basics. It's also a big impact on me because I can learn something from them too," she said.
This initiative marks the second consecutive year of collaboration between the Embassy of Israel, SBP, and the Laura Vicuna Foundation, focusing on female teenagers who have faced traumatic experiences. Fluss expressed his hope that his successor will continue the partnerships established during his term and explore new opportunities to strengthen the relationship between the Philippines and Israel.
