Japanese Food Company Launches Sweets for Dogs and Owners to Share

Tokyo: Japanese confectionery maker Morinaga and Co. announced plans to launch a new line of sweets on March 3 that can be safely shared between dog owners and their pets. The initiative is part of the company's strategy to tap into the burgeoning market for pet goods, especially as Japan faces a shrinking and aging population.

According to Philippines News Agency, Morinaga has adapted some of its classic favorites, like Moonlight cookies, to make them suitable for canine consumption. The company has collaborated with pet food manufacturers and veterinarians to refine the textures and sweetness of the seven new items, which include cookies priced at JPY356 and a frozen dessert at JPY432.

Company Chairman Eijiro Ota expressed optimism about the new product line at a recent press conference, stating, "The market is very promising amid a shrinking and aging population. Our goal is to bring joy to many dogs and their owners." Satoko Suzuki, who leads the project, emphasized the importance of evaluating consumer demand and price appropriateness as they roll out the new confectioneries.
