JDV Corners Launched in Pangasinan Schools to Inspire Youth

Manila: The JDV (Jose De Venecia Jr.) Corner, featuring the life and legacy of the Pangasinense former five-time Speaker of the House of Representatives, was launched in various schools to inspire public service and patriotism among the youth. Department of Education (DepEd) Pangasinan II Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Vivian Luz Pagatpatan said during Tuesday's launching that JDV Corners have been established in Manaoag, San Fabian, and San Jacinto national high schools, with another to be set up in Mangaldan National High School.

According to Philippines News Agency, JDV Corners will include books, comics, documentaries, pictures, and other materials aimed at inspiring students with the teachings of service, love for country, and hope for the next generation. Pangasinan Fourth District Rep. Gina De Venecia, wife of JDV, highlighted the inclusion of a QR code feature to engage young learners by allowing them to access these educational materials through their devices.

Dr. Pagatpatan emphasized that JDV's life is a testament to overcoming challenges and aspiring for leadership roles, reflecting values of peace, diplomacy, unity, and kindness. She encouraged students to learn from JDV's journey from an ordinary child to a global leader.

Feedback from the students has been positive, with Jesmin Alyssa Calpo, a Grade 9 student at San Jacinto National High School, expressing excitement about learning more about JDV's contributions and the innovative way the resources are being made accessible.

JDV, born in Dagupan City on December 26, 1936, served seven terms in the House of Representatives, including five as Speaker. He was instrumental in forming the Rainbow Coalition and was a principal author of several landmark laws such as the Dollar Remittance Program and the Philippine Economic Zone Act. His legacy is celebrated annually in Dagupan City with December 26 declared as De Venecia Day.

The initiative not only preserves JDV's legacy but also aims to inspire the next generation of leaders by showcasing his dedication and service to the nation.
