ISKANDAR PUTERI, The Johor government is in discussions with the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) to identify suitable locations for the new MADANI housing projects in the state. State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the state government welcomed the MADANI Housing initiative put forth by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as part of efforts to aid low-income groups in owning homes. He added that the MADANI Housing initiative complements existing housing programmes in Johor, and the state government welcomes any proposals to develop more affordable housing for low-income earners. Speaking to reporters after attending the Synergistic Government-University-Community-Industry (GUCI) Sustainable Collaboration 2024 programme at a hotel today, Mohd Jafni said that the state government, under Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi's leadership, aims to build 30,000 affordable homes from 2022 to 2026. 'Johor mandates that developers adhere to the 60- 40 policy. We allocate 60 per cent to the developer for higher-priced homes, while the remaining 40 per cent must comply with the Johor housing policy, which requires the construction of homes priced below RM300,000,' he said. Anwar has previously instructed that new housing projects must incorporate MADANI housing blocks to ensure that both civil servants and the B40 and M40 groups have the opportunity to own a home. The Prime Minister reportedly said that this requirement was crucial for the approval of new housing developments, ensuring that the people can benefit from these initiatives.
