KUALA LUMPUR, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor should give higher priority to be with the people of the state who are facing the floods, said Sungai Petani MP Dr Taufiq Johari. He said in a statement today that the number of flood victims in Kedah had increased to 7,469 people as of this morning, with the people of the state still waiting for a flood mitigation plan by the state government to help existing agencies at the federal level. Dr Taufiq said it is not an urgent need at the moment for Muhammad Sanusi to be on a working visit to learn about the model of the project that will be built by the federal government. "I am referring to a statement regarding the presence of the Kedah Menteri Besar in Japan to study the management of underground water reservoir operations. "Nonetheless, the Underground Dam Construction Project in Pulau Langkawi is a project of the federal government through the Water Supply Division (BBA) as the implementer. "The technical evaluation will also be man aged by this agency which is now already in the pre-implementation stage. He should also not act more than his role when the federal minister who shoulders the project has not even made such a visit," he said. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today visited the three temporary evacuation centres (PPS) that housed flood victims in Alor Setar, Kedah. The Prime Minister also announced an allocation amounting to RM13 million for post-flood relief in Kedah involving donations, cleaning and repairing infrastructure damaged by floods.
