BAGUIO CITY: Kennon Road, a major artery leading to Baguio City, has been reopened to light vehicles after a temporary closure due to a fire incident on New Year's Day, the Department of Works and Highways (DPWH) announced. The closure was necessary to clear debris from the fire, which resulted in one fatality and significant property damage.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH-Cordillera released an advisory confirming the reopening of the national road to light vehicles as of 9 p.m. on January 1, 2025. The fire at Camp 6 in Tuba, Benguet, led to the destruction of approximately 26 houses and a church, necessitating the road's closure to facilitate cleanup operations.
Motorists with heavy vehicles are advised to continue using Marcos Highway and the Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Boundary Road as alternative routes. Kennon Road is a crucial route for accessing Baguio City and surrounding areas, making its reopening significant for the region's connectivity and transportation.
