BERA, The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is committed to ensuring that residents in remote areas, including the Orang Asli in the peninsula and the Orang Asal in Sarawak and Sabah, are not cut off from essential supplies. Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh said one of the measures implemented was Rahmah Sales in the villages, offering a range of items at lower prices compared to the market. 'I have been informed that these sales are well-received, with items priced 30 to 40 per cent below market rates,' she said while officiating the International Day of the World's Indigenous People 2024 at Kampung Pos Iskandar today. Fuziah added that a previous Rahmah Sale held at Kampung Pos Iskandar on July 16, 2023, had also garnered a positive response from the local community. Additionally, she emphasised that the government is focused on ensuring that the prices of basic necessities remain under control. Today's celebration featured a variety of engaging programmes, including blowpipe contests, Orang Asli and Borneo cultural performances, Rahmah Sale, and exhibitions by government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The event aims to raise awareness about and protect the rights of indigenous peoples worldwide, while also recognising their contributions to addressing global issues such as environmental protection.
