LEGAZPI CITY: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Bicol Region has completed the cash payout for Camarines Norte residents affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami) under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program. DOLE-5 spokesperson Johana Vi Gasga said the wages were distributed to 1,077 beneficiaries from four towns in the province. According to Philippines News Agency, the payout was conducted in the towns of Capalonga, Labo, Daet, and San Lorenzo Ruiz. Capalonga had 767 beneficiaries receiving PHP3 million, while Labo, Daet, and San Lorenzo Ruiz had 117, 79, and 114 beneficiaries receiving PHP462,150, PHP312,050, and PHP450,300, respectively. Each beneficiary participated in community development projects such as cleanup drives, community-based farming initiatives, planting of disaster-resilient crops, and repacking relief goods, and received a daily wage of PHP395 based on the number of days worked. DOLE-Bicol Regional Direct or Imelda Gatinao assured the beneficiaries of the government's commitment to supporting those severely affected by the typhoon. She acknowledged the challenges faced by Bicolanos in the aftermath of the storm, emphasizing the government's mission to provide immediate financial assistance and temporary work to help the affected communities recover. Meanwhile, Eleonor Florendo, a 53-year-old resident of Capalonga, expressed her gratitude for the assistance, noting its significant impact on her family's financial situation. She appreciated the opportunity provided by DOLE to earn PHP3,950 through community work, which will help cover her child's educational expenses amidst the current challenges. The TUPAD program provides emergency employment to disadvantaged workers, offering 10 to 30 days of community work, especially during times of disaster and calamities, to enable beneficiaries to improve and rehabilitate their communities.
