La trinidad: Residents and vegetable traders in the capital town of Benguet must brace for heavier traffic and consider alternate routes as construction along the national highway begins.
According to Philippines News Agency, La Trinidad police chief Col. Zacarias Dausen has advised commuters and motorists to avoid the main road, particularly the stretch at Kilometer 6 near the Benguet State University police outpost, where traffic congestion is expected. He recommended that those traveling to and from Baguio City and northern Benguet use the Ambiong-Tawang Road, Shilan-Beckel Road, and Tam-awan-Longlong-Puguis Roads to ease traffic flow.
Dausen also appealed for motorists' patience and urged them to plan their trips accordingly. The ongoing roadworks project, being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) First District, is expected to be completed by May 2026, as stated by Mayor Roderick Awingan.
The construction site spans Kilometers 5 and 6, an area that includes major institutions such as Benguet State University, Benguet General Hospital, the municipal hall, and several government and private-run vegetable trading posts that supply to markets nationwide.
