La union: The provincial government of La Union has donated PHP11.55 million to 462 public elementary and high schools to support their recovery efforts after Typhoon Emong.
According to Philippines News Agency, all public elementary and secondary schools received PHP25,000 each, while integrated schools in the province were granted PHP50,000 each.
The financial assistance was provided through the Special Education Fund of the Provincial School Board to support the Brigada Eskwela initiatives of the schools and to provide a timely boost for repairs to classrooms and educational facilities damaged by the typhoon.
Governor Mario Eduardo Ortega emphasized the importance of improving education in the province. "No one should turn their back when it comes to improving the education of our youth in the province of La Union," he said in a statement. Ortega further highlighted the importance of collaboration in creating a strong foundation for inclusive, quality education and committed to meeting the needs of learners and educators to foster a supportive and comprehensive learning environment.
The province has declared a state of calamity following the effects of Typhoon Emong, which affected 165,210 families, or over 500,000 individuals, late last month.
