Manila: Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson has pledged to intensify his efforts against corruption in 2026, expressing optimism that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. would share the same commitment in combating this issue. Lacson emphasized the importance of addressing corruption, citing the return of his staff from 2022 and additional resources as key factors in his renewed focus.

According to Philippines News Agency, Lacson stated, "On a personal note, I thank 2025 for bringing me back all my staff that I left behind in 2022, plus a few assets more. With renewed tenacity and hard work, I am even more encouraged to expose more corruption issues that are similar to what has become the most blatant and unprecedented misuse and abuse of the national budget since I left the Senate three years ago."

Lacson highlighted the increasing awareness and frustration among citizens regarding corruption, urging national leaders to prepare for more scrutiny in 2026. Since his return to the Senate in May 2025, Lacson has been actively involved in uncovering the misappropriation of public funds, particularly through substandard and ghost flood control projects. His efforts included delivering two privilege speeches and overseeing Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearings.

Lacson expressed his eagerness to continue his work with a dedicated team, aiming to inform the public through investigations and research. He also urged President Marcos to maintain his stance against corruption, referencing the President's previous statements that resonated with the public. Lacson pointed out that recent surveys reflect a less favorable perception of the President's efforts against corruption.
