The Lanao del Sur provincial government is continuously sending relief aid to its flooded municipalities, including those in neighboring Maguindanao province.

In a statement Wednesday, Governor Mamintal Alonto-Adiong Jr. said he ordered the delivery of the second batch of provisions to the affected families with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) as the supervising body.

“It is our duty as Muslims and public servants to help those in need during critical times,” Adiong said.

On Oct. 31, he said the first batch of family food packs went to Lanao del Sur towns of Balabagan and Malabang, and Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao, all hit by Tropical Storm Paeng.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has started its 45-day Emergency Medical Technician Course and Emergency Response Training for the heads and rescuers of different DRRMOs in Lanao del Sur.

Participants include police and military personnel, as well as staff of the PSWDO, and other rescue volunteers.

Adiong underscored the importance of having “well-capacitated and educated emergency rescuers and responders” in saving more lives.

“I urge all barangay and municipal LGUs (local government units) to continually and actively use their calamity funds for disaster preparedness,” he said.

Provincial DRRMO head Shaminoden Sambitory said the activity is timely because the country has been constantly stormed with calamities.
