The House Committee on Housing and Urban Development chaired by Rep. Alfredo Benitez (3rd District, Negros Occidental) this week discussed House Bill No. 8255, principally authored by former President and now Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, which seeks to allocate a 71-hectare property in Manggahan Floodway in Taytay, Rizal for socialized housing. During the hearing, House Members urged the National Housing Authority (NHA) to expedite the land titling for the benefit of about 6,000 families occupying the area, who have waited for 25 years already. Concerned agencies, including the NHA, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Registry of Deeds, assured the panel that all land titles will already be awarded in 2020. Aside from Speaker Arroyo and Rep. Benitez, other lawmakers present during the hearing were Reps. Bayani Fernando, Anthony Bravo Ph.D., Florida Robes, Ariel Casilao, and Antonio Tinio. Resource persons present include Taytay Mayor Joric Gacula and Councilor Ceferino Resureccion, NHA Division Manager Engr. Ma. Therese Siat, Atty. John Daryl Josol of the Registry of Deeds as well as representatives from the Land Registration Authority and the Laguna Lake Development Authority, among others.| Gilbert Engay/Molie Gonzales
