LPA and Southwest Monsoon to Cause Scattered Rains and Thunderstorms Across the Philippines

Manila: A low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat," will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced.

According to Philippines News Agency, as of 3 a.m., the LPA was situated over the coastal waters of Paracale, Camarines Norte, while the habagat is impacting the western sections of southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Weather specialist Obet Badrina mentioned that PAGASA is not dismissing the possibility of the LPA developing into a tropical cyclone, although the likelihood is decreasing. If it transforms into a tropical cyclone, it is expected to occur within the day and will likely dissipate as it moves westward.

The LPA is predicted to bring heavy rains over Isabela, Aurora, Bulacan, Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, and Masbate. Flooding is possible in urbanized, low-lying areas, or those near rivers. Landslides could occur in highly susceptible areas, as indicated by the weather bureau.

Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, the rest of Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA. Meanwhile, Mimaropa, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and the rest of Visayas will also have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the habagat. Other regions in the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
