Manila: The low-pressure area (LPA) west of Ilocos Region has developed into a tropical depression (TD) and was named Fabian, the weather bureau said Friday. Fabian was located 185 kilometers west of Batac, Ilocos Norte as of 10 a.m., moving northwestward at 10 kph. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the TD is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight or early Saturday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Fabian packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph. It is forecast to maintain its strength until it weakens into a remnant low as it exits the PAR. No tropical cyclone wind signal is hoisted, and the TD is unlikely to directly affect the weather condition in the country. However, PAGASA said Fabian will bring moderate seas in the coastal waters of Northern Luzon.
Mariners of motor bancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to the sea, PAGASA said.
