According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB chair Vigor Mendoza II stated that the operations reflect the agency's commitment to providing Filipino commuters with decent, reliable, and comfortable public transportation. "There must be no excuses for dilapidated, untidy, and stinking public transportation units. That is clear and simple, and that is based on the rules and regulations that PUV operators are fully aware of when they sought for the authority to operate," Mendoza said. He warned that operators found in violation face the cancellation of their franchise.
"If these are being violated, then we have no choice but to strip them of the privilege to operate PUVs for disrespecting not only the commuters but the entire public transportation system that we seek to further improve and professionalize," he added.
LTFRB Law Enforcement Division Head Sherwin Vizconde reported that 178 taxi units were apprehended in operations in Caloocan and Quezon City, where the agency had been receiving reports of dilapidated taxis from passengers. Additionally, 48 passenger buses were apprehended during deployments along NIA Road, Robinson Antipolo, Monumento, and Mindanao Avenue.
Show cause orders have been sent to the operators of the apprehended units, requiring them to explain why their franchise should not be cancelled or revoked for operating untidy and dilapidated vehicles. Mendoza himself has been conducting surprise inspections targeting taxis, jeepneys, buses, and transport network vehicle service units as part of the campaign. "Filipino commuters deserve better. Those who violate the regulations on cleanliness and presentability of units have no place in our public transportation system," Mendoza said.
