Manila: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will resume accepting letters of intent for the accreditation of Motorcycle Taxi Platform Providers (MTPP) and applications for the issuance of Provisional Authority to Operate as motorcycle taxi riders starting August 5.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza II announced that the accreditation and issuance of Provisional Authority will adhere to the rider cap allocated by the Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (TWG) for each MTPP. Mendoza emphasized that no new players will be accepted, as slots are limited to those already approved by the TWG.
Mendoza stated, "We have implemented measures not only to ensure that the process will be smooth and comfortable for the motorcycle taxi community but also to achieve our main goal of coming up with an orderly and systematic way of public transportation."
The resumption follows an earlier temporary suspension by the LTFRB on onboarding new ride-hailing service units and riders. This suspension was in response to confirmed reports of surpassing the driver and rider limits set by the agency, aiming to cleanse the ranks for the benefit of the entire ride-hailing community.
Mendoza further emphasized that the objective is to secure a reliable and comfortable transport system for the riding public. This move aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to enhance, modernize, and professionalize public transportation.
