LTFRB Urges PUV Operators to Ensure Vehicle Safety Ahead of Undas Holiday

Manila:The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a reminder to public utility vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers to ensure the roadworthiness of their units as millions of Filipinos prepare to travel for the Undas holiday break.

According to Philippines News Agency, acting LTFRB chairperson Greg Pua Jr. emphasized the importance of maintaining PUV units as part of the obligations under the Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) and other operating authorities. Pua anticipates a surge in passengers starting October 30 and has issued special permits to over 1,200 passenger buses across the country, primarily connecting Metro Manila with various parts of Luzon.

Pua highlighted that passengers pay not only for their transportation but also for the assurance of safe and comfortable travel. The LTFRB's reminder also extends to other forms of public transportation, including taxis and ride-hailing services, as travelers head to bus terminals, airports, and seaports.

He cautioned operators against complacency in vehicle maintenance, urging them to abandon the "puwede pa yan" or "good enough" mentality. Pua stressed the critical nature of regularly checking vehicle conditions, noting that poorly maintained units pose risks to other road users and could lead to severe legal consequences for non-compliant operators.

"Our reminder for road safety comes with a warning of serious legal consequences. Let us not go that way by simply complying with the obligations which you promised to observe when you were applying for the CPC and authority to operate," Pua stated.
