Quezon city: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday filed several charges against the driver and owner of a tricycle that counterflowed and went viral in a video on social media.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, announced the issuance of a show cause order (SCO) requiring both the driver and the owner of the tricycle to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) in Quezon City on January 22. Lacanilao highlighted the issue of counterflow driving, stating that it is not only illegal but also disregards safety.
The individuals involved are facing administrative charges for reckless driving, obstruction of traffic, driving against traffic, being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, and violation of the provision on the duty to have a license and the compulsory registration of motor vehicles. The driver's license has been placed on a 90-day temporary suspension, and the tricycle is now on alarm status during the ongoing investigation.
In the viral video, the tricycle was seen driving on and blocking the wrong lane. The driver was also captured showing offensive gestures and mocking the camera. Lacanilao emphasized that the LTO is determined to prevent such behavior and ensure that traffic laws are taken seriously.
