Manila:The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order to television host Ian Red and the registered owner of an SUV following a viral video that captured him driving without a seatbelt and stepping out of the vehicle while on the road.

According to Philippines News Agency, the video depicts Ian Red behind the wheel without a seatbelt as fellow TV hosts Miles Ocampo, Ryzza Mae Dizon, and Maine Mendoza recorded themselves singing inside the vehicle. At the clip's end, Red exits the vehicle while it is still on the road, leaving the door open before getting back in.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao emphasized the importance of safety, stating that while creating content and having fun inside a vehicle is not wrong, safety should not be compromised. As a licensed driver, Red is expected to wear a seatbelt, focus on driving, and comply with traffic laws.

The LTO has directed both the registered owner and driver to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division on September 29 for a hearing. They are required to submit a sworn statement or explanation with supporting documents to justify why the driver should not be held liable for violations related to not wearing a seatbelt and reckless driving.

Additionally, the LTO is considering declaring the driver as an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle. This could lead to the suspension or revocation of his driver's license. Meanwhile, a 90-day preventive suspension has been imposed on the driver's license during the ongoing investigation. The driver has been ordered to surrender his license, which is currently under alarm status, along with the vehicle.
