LTO Recommends Four-Year License Revocation for Iloilo Hit-and-Run Incident

Iloilo City:The Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO-6) has recommended revoking an optometrist's driver's license for four years following an alleged hit-and-run incident in October.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II approved the recommendation from the agency's Intelligence and Investigation Unit. This decision is based on violations of Sections 48 and 55 of Republic Act 4136, known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code. Section 48 addresses reckless driving, while Section 55 mandates that drivers involved in road accidents must identify themselves, provide necessary information, and assist victims unless exceptions are provided by law.

The resolution, dated October 27, 2026, indicated that substantial evidence, including video footage, supported the administrative liability of the driver for reckless driving and failing to fulfill obligations in the event of an accident. The LTO central office is expected to approve this recommended penalty. Until then, the driver remains under a 90-day preventive suspension, with additional fines to be imposed.

Before the issuance of the resolution, the driver received a show-cause order demanding an explanation for why administrative sanctions should not be applied. In addition, Geduspan ordered the vehicle involved to be placed under alarm until the fines related to these violations are settled.

In a statement, Geduspan emphasized that road safety extends beyond preventing collisions, highlighting the importance of motorists taking responsibility and meeting their legal duties when accidents occur.
