LTO Revokes, Suspends Licenses of Drivers in Viral Road Rage Videos

Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) reported on Wednesday the resolution of several viral cases of road rage and traffic violations, with some motorists meted out penalties ranging from license suspensions to perpetual revocations.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, stated that the cases were resolved by the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division in alignment with the administration's '7-point framework agenda' focused on strict enforcement and road discipline. Lacanilao emphasized that dangerous driving would not be tolerated and urged the public to remain vigilant in reporting violators.

In the tragic accident involving a child killed while crossing a pedestrian lane in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, on January 11, the driver's license has been perpetually revoked, and the driver is disqualified from acquiring any type of license. A similar incident in Suyo, Ilocos Sur, involving a Toyota Hi-Lux driver, also resulted in a perpetual license revocation, pending case resolution approval.

Additionally, the license of a motorcycle rider who threatened another rider with a knife during a viral road rage incident was revoked. Another driver, who gained notoriety for performing drifting maneuvers in Tuguegarao City, has also faced perpetual license revocation.

The LTO has reported several other penalties, including three-month license suspensions for various drivers, disqualification of student drivers from obtaining a license, and fines for minor violations, demonstrating the agency's commitment to road safety and accountability.
