Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has so far revoked or suspended the driver's license of 1,108 motorists since October last year as part of an intensified crackdown against unsafe and irresponsible driving. In a statement on Monday, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao confirmed the figures, noting this effort commenced following his appointment in October and includes 618 revoked and 490 suspended driver's licenses.
According to Philippines News Agency, of the 618 revoked licenses, eight are one-year revocations, 476 are two-year revocations, 32 are four-year revocations, and 102 are permanent revocations following the results of investigations by the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID). On the other hand, the 490 license suspensions comprise 37 one-month suspensions, 336 three-month suspensions, 11 six-month suspensions, one seven-month suspension, and 105 one-year suspensions.
Recent cases from June 11 until July 4 resulted in 184 revocations and 94 suspensions. Lacanilao emphasized that beyond the penalties, the initiative aims to foster responsible drivers through a sustained road safety campaign.
Lacanilao stated that the primary goal extends beyond enforcing penalties, focusing on maintaining road discipline and safeguarding every road user. He assured that the LTO would persist in its rigorous monitoring and investigation of road violations, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving and strict adherence to road laws for the safety of all.
