Manila: The Land Transportation Office has suspended the license of a motorcycle taxi driver who was caught in an incident of overcharging at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II announced the 90-day suspension of the driver's license, as an investigation into the incident, which went viral on social media, is ongoing. The driver reportedly charged a passenger PHP2,000 for a journey from NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City to Cainta, Rizal.

A show cause order, signed by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renante Melitante, requires the driver to justify why he should not be held accountable for overcharging. Mendoza highlighted the efforts of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon in addressing the issue of abusive public utility vehicle drivers, following a previous viral incident at NAIA involving a cab driver who overcharged a passenger for a short trip.

The investigation will also determine whether the motorcycle taxi driver is the registered owner of the vehicle. The driver is facing charges under Section 27 of Republic Act No. 4136, also known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, which could result in the revocation of his driver's license.
