Clark: Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) on Thursday initiated the construction of its new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility within the Clark International Airport complex. The project represents a significant investment in the region and is expected to create over 1,000 jobs on a 157,000-square meter site.
According to Philippines News Agency, the investment is seen as a strong endorsement of Clark's potential, Filipino talent, and the growth prospects of the Philippines' aviation industry. Josephine Gotianun Yap, chairperson of Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD), emphasized the transformation of Clark into a major aviation hub for the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region.
LTP, known for its expertise in the maintenance of Airbus A330, A340, and A380, as well as Boeing 777 aircraft, plans to begin operations at the new facility in 2028. This expansion will allow LTP to include Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft in its service portfolio. The facility will complement LTP's existing operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, enhancing Clark airport's role as a strategic hub for aviation, logistics, and aerospace-related industries.
The facility, a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and MacroAsia Corporation, will also include a paint shop and workshops for non-destructive testing. These additions will bolster the country's capabilities in aircraft maintenance.
Noel Manankil, LIPAD's chief executive officer, noted that the groundbreaking marks the ongoing realization of the Clark AeroDistrict. He highlighted the presence of global industry leaders such as FedEx Express and UPS, which further strengthens the ecosystem developing around Clark International Airport.
