Madis Advances to Coca-Cola PHILTA International Juniors 2 Quarterfinal.

Manila: Top seed Tennielle Madis secured her place in the girls singles quarterfinal of the Coca-Cola PHILTA International Juniors 2 by defeating Indonesian Joanne Lyn Hartono with a commanding score of 6-1, 6-1 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. Madis, who is on a quest for her sixth singles title this year, will next face sixth seed Naomi Hagi from Japan. Hagi advanced to the quarterfinals after overcoming Thailand’s Pimmada Lim in a closely contested match that ended 6-2, 7-5.

According to Philippines News Agency, Madis expressed satisfaction with her performance despite the challenging weather conditions, stating, “It’s too hot today, but overall, I’m happy with the way I played.” The 17-year-old trains at the Philippine Tennis Academy, an institution founded by sports patron Romy Chan. Her recent tournament journey includes a J100 event in Hong Kong and a two-leg J60 event in Changhua City, Chinese Taipei, where she clinched both singles and doubles titles in the second leg with teammate Steffi Marith
e Aludo.

Head coach Bobbie Angelo, a SEAG Games medalist and former Davis Cup player, attributed Madis’s adaptation challenges to the difference in climate, noting, “Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong have cooler temperatures, so she’s still adjusting to the weather here.” Madis, a native of M’lang, North Cotabato, has already claimed victories at the J30 PHINMA Week 1 and 2 in Makati City, in addition to triumphing in J60 events in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Nonthaburi, Thailand, earlier this year.
