Baguio city: Mayor Benjamin Magalong has instructed city government employees to participate in a clean-up activity scheduled in the central business district (CBD) this Friday. The initiative is part of the city's 116th Foundation Day celebration.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Magalong emphasized the importance of 'full cooperation and active participation' in this civic initiative, highlighting its role in promoting 'bayanihan' and excellence in public service. The initiative, detailed in Memorandum 116-2025, aims to foster volunteerism, civic consciousness, and unity among government workers.
The memorandum supports Executive Order 107-2025, which declared the morning of Sept. 12 as a community service day. It mandates all city government employees to actively engage in the activity to enhance civic consciousness, encourage volunteerism, and promote unity through community involvement.
City offices have been allocated specific areas to manage during the clean-up, with instructions for department heads to maintain a skeletal workforce to ensure uninterrupted public services. The clean-up drive is part of ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness in public spaces.
In related efforts, the mayor has also directed business establishments to uphold cleanliness within their premises and surroundings. At least 20 establishments have faced penalties for violating the city's anti-littering ordinance.
