Cagayan: Two of Magat Dam's spillway gates remained open on Tuesday afternoon, a reduction from six the previous day, as the water level at its reservoir continues to be manageable. Total gate opening as of 2 p.m. was 4 meters, the Cagayan Provincial Information Office reported in its 3 p.m. social media post, citing a report from the National Irrigation Administration - Magat River Integrated Irrigation System Flood Forecasting and Warning System Dam Operation. According to Philippines News Agency, the closure of spillway gates and reduction of opening began at 7 p.m. on Monday. Magat Dam officials had initially decided to open six spillway gates on Monday, with a total opening of 11 meters, to manage the swelling of the water level due to rains caused by Typhoon Pepito (international name Man-yi). This operation resulted in an increased water level in the river's tributaries. In response, officials of various local governments in nearby areas have implemented preemptive evacuation measures to safeguard th eir constituents.
