Quezon: A magnitude 4.6 earthquake jolted Quezon on Tuesday, reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The tectonic quake struck 24 kilometers northwest of General Nakar at 12:17 p.m., with a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to Philippines News Agency, the earthquake caused varying intensities of shaking across several areas. Intensity IV was felt in Makati, Manila, Marikina, San Pedro in Laguna, and Tanay in Rizal. Intensity III was reported in Navotas, Quezon City, Pasay City, San Juan, Taguig, Guiguinto, and Malolos in Bulacan, Palayan in Nueva Ecija, Mabalacat City in Pampanga, Angeles City, and Bi±an. Intensity II was noted in Caloocan, Mandaluyong, Para±aque, Valenzuela, Obando in Bulacan, and Cabiao in Nueva Ecija.
Phivolcs also recorded instrumental intensities, with Intensity IV in General Nakar, Quezon, and Intensity III in various other areas including Caloocan and Malabon. Intensity II was measured in locations such as Las Pi±as and Para±aque, while Intensity I was recorded in Pateros and other regions.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) stated that no reports of damage to infrastructure have been received. Residents experienced mild tremors, with stronger shaking in parts of Manila, Pasay, and Marikina. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (NDRRMOC) conducted an emergency meeting to assess the impact, ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure like IPO and Angat dams.
Authorities advise residents to stay calm, vigilant, and prepared for possible aftershocks.
