Santa catalina: A man who allegedly stabbed a police officer in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental, is now facing a complaint for direct assault against an agent of a person in authority, an official disclosed.
According to Philippines News Agency, Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), reported that the police officer, assigned to the Santa Catalina police station, sustained serious injuries after being stabbed by the suspect on Wednesday evening.
Polinar detailed that the suspect was intoxicated prior to the incident and intended to purchase liquor. When the woman at the store refused to sell him any, he grabbed her and stabbed her approximately seven times. The woman, identified as Loisa Lagundi, was already taken to the hospital by the time responding officers arrived at the scene in the remote village of Milagrosa.
The officers were informed that the suspect was hiding in his house in the same barangay. Upon attempting to arrest him, the suspect attacked and stabbed one of the policemen, injuring him in the eye. A report from Ace Hospital in Bayawan City indicated that a major artery in the officer's eye was severed, resulting in significant bleeding, as noted by Polinar.
The injured officer, holding the rank of Police Executive Master Sergeant, was subsequently transferred to a hospital in Dumaguete for additional medical care. Polinar confirmed that the suspect, who is currently in custody, will also face separate charges related to the assault on Lagundi.
