Manila Launches School Supplies Caravan for Affordable Back-to-School Shopping

Manila: The city government of Manila, in collaboration with the national government, has launched a program that enables the public to purchase school items at significantly reduced prices. Mayor Honey Lacuna, in cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Education (DepEd), spearheaded the "Diskwento Caravan: Balik Eskwela Edition." This initiative is designed to assist residents, city employees, teachers, and school personnel in acquiring school supplies and other products at lower costs.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Lacuna expressed gratitude to the DTI and DepEd for the successful implementation of the caravan in Manila. The program offers an opportunity for parents and students to prepare for the new school year with less financial burden. The caravan provides discounts on school essentials such as notebooks, writing materials, bags, and uniforms, in accordance with Department Order (DO) No. 12, series of 2025.

The launch event took place on Monday, marking the first day of School Year 2025-2026, at the inner court of the Manila City Hall.
