Manila: The Manila City government has approved a four-day workweek in line with the policy of the national government to conserve energy amid the rise in oil prices triggered by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Manila Public Information Office announced via social media that Mayor Isko Moreno has signed Executive Order No. 8, Series of 2026. This order implements a four-day work schedule from Monday to Thursday with work hours set from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for City Hall employees. Under this new arrangement, there will be no work on Fridays. However, the order excludes offices that deliver essential services.

Last week, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. issued a directive for the temporary implementation of a four-day workweek in some executive branch offices, starting on March 9. This initiative is part of the government's broader strategy to conserve energy and reduce fuel consumption. Memorandum Circular 114 specifies that the policy applies to all national government agencies, government-owned or -controlled corporations, local government units, constitutional bodies, state universities and colleges, and other government instrumentalities.
