Marawi city: The celebration of Marawi City's Langkit Festival has become a symbol of the city's resilient recovery and economic momentum. In a message on Wednesday, Vice Mayor Majul Gandamra said the festival is more than just a way to preserve the Meranaw weaving tradition; it also serves as a modern platform for job generation and business development.
According to Philippines News Agency, Vice Mayor Gandamra expressed his vision for the Langkit Festival, hoping it will eventually attract visitors from across the Philippines and even from around the world. "Langkit" refers to the vibrant, handwoven traditional textiles crafted by Meranaw weavers.
The local government has extended its support to artisans for their handicrafts and metalworks. It also backs emerging small, micro, and medium enterprises in the food and agri-fishery sectors. The festival is held annually, running for more than a week.
