Marcos Aware of Issues Hounding GSIS Chief, Palace Says

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is already aware of the controversy surrounding Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo 'Wick' Veloso and will study the allegations before deciding on any action, Malaca±ang said Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Marcos expects integrity and accountability from all agency heads but will not rush to judgment without due assessment.

'Ang alam po natin, ang Pangulo po, ang gusto po niya ay mga taong tumutugon sa kanilang mga obligasyon. Dapat ang pamumuno at tamang leadership ang nais ng Pangulo sa bawat ahensiya (What we know is that the President wants people who fulfill their obligations. He demands proper leadership in every agency),' Castro told reporters in a press briefing at the Palace.

She stressed that complaints against Veloso, including accusations of gross mismanagement and non-compliant investments resulting in PHP8.8 billion in losses, are being taken seriously.

'Kung mayroon pong mga reklamo sa ngayon, dapat po itong inaaral nang masinsinan. Kung mayroon naman pong basis, tingnan po natin kung anong magiging desisyon ng Pangulo (If there are complaints, these must be studied thoroughly. If there is basis, then let's see what the President's decision will be),' she added.

When asked if the Chief Executive has been informed of the calls for Veloso's resignation, Castro replied: 'Opo, alam niya na po (Yes, he already knows).'

Malaca±ang said updates will be provided once the President completes his review of the matter.
