Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recently announced that the rehabilitation of the 23.8-kilometer Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) will not proceed until comprehensive rerouting plans are established and local government units (LGUs) are fully prepared for the anticipated disruptions. Marcos emphasized the importance of having solid plans in place before moving forward with the project, which is a key element of the administration's infrastructure program.
According to Philippines News Agency, concerns have been raised about potential traffic issues and the capacity of local authorities to manage rerouting during the EDSA rehabilitation. Initially scheduled to begin on June 13, the roadworks have been postponed for a month to allow relevant agencies to explore methods that could minimize the project's duration and lessen public inconvenience.
In his vlog, President Marcos also highlighted improvements in other sectors, including transportation, peace and order, and food security. He pointed to recent developments in the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), such as the launch of the 1+3 Family Fare promo and improved service speed, as evidence of progress under the leadership of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
Further improvements were noted at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City, aligning with the broader aim of modernizing the country's major gateways. Additionally, Marcos reported positive feedback on the 'Cops on the Beat' program, which enhances police visibility and community security. He also announced the impending launch of a national emergency hotline by July.
Addressing concerns about the sustainability of the administration's PHP20 per kilo rice policy, Marcos expressed confidence that it can be maintained through collective effort and government support. He mentioned ongoing initiatives to assist farmers, including the distribution of agricultural machinery and irrigation equipment.
The President concluded his message by reiterating his commitment to listening to the public and addressing their needs.
