Cavite: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday lauded the country's pioneering grid-connected, utility-scale solar rooftop project located within a socialized housing community in Cavite, describing it as a benchmark for the Philippines' accelerated shift to renewable energy. The President inspected the 6.55-megawatt peak Ning*Ning Solar Rooftop Power Facility in Pasinayan Homes Prime Central, developed by the Joy~Nostalg Group through Jin Navitas Solaris Inc. and Raemulan Lands Inc.
According to Philippines News Agency, the facility utilizes the rooftops of 1,986 households, with each rooftop supporting six solar panels. Marcos stated that this makes the project the first grid-connected solar power system of its kind in the world, situated within a socialized housing community. The project boasts a net export capacity of 4.95 MWac, generating approximately 9,182 megawatt-hours annually, which is sufficient to power over 7,900 homes. The generated power is fed into the MERALCO grid and is continuously monitored to ensure safe and reliable delivery.
President Marcos emphasized the environmental advantages of the system, highlighting its capacity to reduce 6,233 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually. He noted that this reduction is akin to removing a thousand cars from the road. The design of the project also avoids converting agricultural land, which is an increasingly crucial consideration in Luzon, where grid demand is on the rise.
The solar facility has already received global recognition, earning gold for ESG Integration Excellence and silver for Sustainable Renewable Energy Initiative of the Year at the 2025 Asian Power Awards. 'You have managed to bring Filipino innovation to the world stage,' Marcos remarked. The project is aligned with the Department of Energy's goals under the Green Energy Auction Program, the Renewable Portfolio Standards, and the Sustainable Finance Framework, all aimed at increasing the renewable share of the national energy mix. The Philippines aims to achieve 35 percent renewable energy by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.
Marcos noted that the project exemplifies the type of 'creative and innovative solutions' necessary as the country confronts climate challenges and the global transition away from fossil fuels. 'We cannot continue to do the same things that we did before,' he stated. Beyond energy production, the Joy~Nostalg Foundation supports community programs linked to the initiative, such as roof maintenance, street lighting, waste management, shared solar facilities, and capacity-building for residents. Marcos suggested that the Cavite project could serve as a model for future installations throughout the Philippines. He also pledged to enhance government processes to support more renewable investments, stating, 'On our end as government, we will continue improving our processes so we can promote and accelerate more innovative renewable energy projects.'
