Marcos Leads Turnover of 575 Wheelchairs to Ilocos Norte LGUs

Batac city: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday spearheaded the turnover of over 500 wheelchairs intended for indigent patients in Ilocos Norte. The effort aimed at enhancing mobility support for those in need was part of a significant local healthcare initiative.

According to Philippines News Agency, the 575 wheelchairs, facilitated through the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), were distributed to the province's 21 municipalities and two cities, with each receiving 25 units. The ceremonial distribution took place at the Imelda Cultural Center in Batac City and coincided with the 108th birth anniversary of the late president Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.

Rose Ingrid Salvador, a staff member at the Pagudpud mayor's office, expressed gratitude on behalf of the constituents, acknowledging the positive impact of the wheelchairs on local communities. Acting Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Rochelle Gajes highlighted the importance of the donation, noting that many patients seeking assistance frequently request wheelchairs.

In addition to the wheelchair distribution, free dialysis treatment was offered to patients at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital in Batac City as part of the celebration. The hospital's chorale performed traditional Ilocano songs to honor the Marcos patriarch, affectionately known as "Apo Lakay" by Ilocanos.

Under President Marcos Jr.'s directive, the administration continues to pursue healthcare improvements, including zero balance billing in government hospitals, expanded coverage by the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), and the distribution of patient transport vehicles to all 1,642 local government units nationwide by the end of the year.
