Marcos Orders LWUA to Investigate Water Supply Issues in Public Schools

Malaca±ang: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has instructed the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) to launch an urgent investigation into the unstable water supply in public schools. This directive comes after the President's visit to public schools in Malolos and San Miguel, Bulacan, as part of the Department of Education's "Brigada Eskwela" initiative.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos expressed his concern regarding inadequate basic utilities, highlighting the lack of water supply and clean bathrooms as significant issues affecting student welfare and school conditions. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized the gravity of the situation at a press briefing in Malaca±ang, stating that the matter involves hygiene, health, and the dignity of students.

Claire Castro noted that the President has given LWUA a 48-hour deadline to provide an initial report identifying the causes of the water supply failures, the responsible officials, and outlining steps to restore services before classes commence next week. She reiterated the President's clear directive for LWUA to carry out an immediate investigation to resolve these issues.

LWUA, a government-owned and controlled corporation, is responsible for promoting and overseeing water systems in cities and municipalities outside Metro Manila. It was established under the Provincial Water Utilities Act of 1973 to facilitate the creation of local water districts.

The Palace underscored the urgency of resolving the water supply issues, stressing that access to water and sanitation is crucial for quality education. Castro highlighted the responsibility to ensure proper facilities, adequate teacher support, and functional systems as foundational to a safe and effective education environment, ultimately aiming to provide peace of mind for parents.
